What is the dermis
strong inner layer under the epidermis, it’s elastic + pink
What is in the dermis?
blood vessels, nerves, sweat glands, sebaceous glands, hair roots
What is the subcutaneous layer?
made up of fatty tissues
stores energy
adipose tissue helps to insulate the body by trapping heat produced by the muscles
What do the sebaceous glands do
secrete sebum
lubricate for hair
provides waterproofing and elasticity
what are the two types of sebaceous glands?
eccrine - help regulate body temperature (evaporative cooling)
Apocine - found in armpit and pubic areas, inactive until puberty - body odour
What are the purpose of nails?
protect sensitive fingers + toes, help pick things up, nails are a good indicator of health
Where is hair found?
everywhere except for palms of hands, sole of feet, eyelids, and lips
What is the purpose of hair + what is it made out of
keeps u warm and stops UV light from hitting
