Fowler’s Position:
helps with breathing
increase comfort of pt
prevents aspiration
Flat
usually used for sleeping
worst for breathing
High Fowler’s
ideal for grooming and feeding
raised 90 degrees
Semi Fowler’s
prevents client from sliding down in bed but the knee position can cause leg circulation problems.
releases the tension of the abdominal muscles, thereby improving the breathing of the patient.
When is Semi-fowler’s used?
patients who are being fed with feeding tubes
because, if a patient lies at a straight angle, the feeding tube contents can run into his lungs and cause complications.
Trendelenburg position
Feet up, head down
A doctor’s order is required for this position
Blocks are usually placed under the foot of the bed to achieve this position.
Sometimes used to treat hypotensive episodes
Reverse Trendelenburg
head up, feet down
