Integument Flashcards
epidermis layers
stratum corneum stratum lucidum stratum granulosum stratum spinosum stratum basale
papillary layer
interdigitates with epidermal pegs
reticular layer
composed of dense irregular connective tissue
Merkel’s cells
epithelia derivative
act as skin receptors
on basement membrane
meissner’s corpuscles
low frequency touch stimuli
pacinian corpuscles
respond to pressure and vibration
hypodermis
corresponds with superficial fascia
keratinocytes
produce keratin to help form water barrier
keratin process
- ribosomes produce keratin and assemble to tonofilaments in the basale
- tonofilaments bundle to tonofibrils
- at spinosum the ribosomes synthesize keratohyalin granules with promote tonofibril creation (flaggrin and trichohyalin)
- lucidum, keratohyalin granules release into cytoplasm
- combo of keratohyalin granules and tonofibrils make soft epidermis
melanocytes
melanosomes formed in basale and released for keratinocytes to uptake. protect from UV
Lagerhans Cells
found in spinosum. originate from marrow and act as antigen presenting cells. have indented nucleus
hair follicle
follicles are associated with arrestor pili muscles and sebaceous glands
sebaceous glands
exocrine gland that have a short duct with several acini . Holocrine secretion
eccrine sweat glands
coiled tubular open to skin directly. secrete merocrine like. everywher but lips and genitalia. simple cuboidal and stratified cuboidal
appocrine sweat gland
coiled tubular. areola, nipple, perianal region, external genitalia. merocrine
