What is CAD?

What other past histories would suggest that pt has CAD?
Angina, MI, CABG, Cardiac Stents, Angioplasty
Does PMHx of CAD mean the pt has CAD?
No
Does a SHx of angioplasty mean the pt has CAD?
Yes.
Explain the difference between CAD and MI?
CAD is a broad term for Heart Disease. MI is included in an active HA.
If someone has a PMHx of A-Fib or CHF, do they also have CAD?
No.
What are the “cardiac risk factors”
HTN, DM, HLD, CAD, Smoking, FHx of CAD
How is CAD diagnosed?
Cardiac Catherization
Name two ways that an MI is diagnosed.
EKG (Stemi) & Troponin (Non-Stemi)
What are some associated symptoms of MI other than CP.
Chest Pressure
Shortness of Breath
Nausea/Vomitting
What are some associated symptoms of CHF
SOB, pedal edema, orthopnea, rales, JVD
What 2 studies would diagnose CHF?
CXR and BNP
What is A-Fib?
Atrial Fibrillation
What might someone feel with A-Fib?
Fast, pounding, irregular palpitations
How is A-Fib diagnosed?
EKG
What could be the CC of someone with a PE
SOB and Pleuritic CP (CP worse w/deep breaths)
What are risk factors of PE?
known DVT, PMHx of DVT or PE, FHx, Recent surgery, cancer, A-Fib, Immobility, Pregnancy, BCP, Smoking
What study would diagnose with PE?
CTA Chest or VQ Scan.
What part of the heart does CAD affect; Arteries, Veins, or Nerves

Can a CT Chest without IV contrast diagnose a PE? Why or Why not?
No. But a VQ Scan can.
