Insulin 2 Flashcards
What is the glucagon receptor?
GCPR 7x
What does the G5alpha subunit in cytoplasm do?
Activates adenylate cyclase-> cAMP-> PKA
What does PKA do in hepatocytes?
Phosphorylates phosphorylase kinase-> activates glycogen phosphorylase
What does GP do?
Converts glycogen to G1P. Activates PLC.
How is G1P converted to G6P?
Phosphoglucomutase
How is calmodulin activated?
Increase in calcium
What does calmodulin do?
Activates phosphorylase kinase
How does insulin inhibit ketogenesis?
Inhibits LIPIN1 which suppresses hepatic VLDL production
What does PKA do in adipocytes?
Phosphorylates hormone sensitive lipase
Symptoms of hypoglycaemia?
Blurred vision, confusion, difficulty concentrating, pallor, sweating, tremor
What can cause hypoglycaemia?
Alcohol, high dose of insulin, insulinoma, excessive exercise
How does alcohol cause hypoglycaemia?
Inhibits gluconeogenesis at level of LDH
What are the metabolic actions of cortisol?
Lipolysis and proteolysis, gluconeogenesis, maintains BP, suppresses inflammation
What are the metabolic actions of adrenaline?
Inhibits insulin secretion, increases lipolysis, stimulates glycogenolysis in liver and muscle, stimulates glucagon
What are the metabolic actions of T3&T4
Increase number of mitochondria and Na+K+ATP channels, stimulate carbohydrate metabolism, mobilise lipid
