Instrumentation Flashcards
cleaning & shaping aka?
chemomechanical debridement
cleaning is what?
removing all canal contents, esp tissue and infective organsms
goals of shaping?
enlarge and shape canal to recieve filling material that will seal it well.
Radiographic length definition?
full length from reference point to apex
Working distance = ?
Length of tooth from reference point to 1mm from apex
What is a reference point?
stable reproducible location from which to measure
Why subtract 1mm?
to preserve apical constriction (dentin cementum jct)
How to determine final WD?
measure distance between guide file and radiographic apex (should be 1mm)
Start with what size guide file?
10 then increase until snug
What is a glide path?
smooth unobstructed natural path through canal
What is recapitulation?
sequential reusing instruments that have been confirmed to reach WD
What is patency?
natural unblocked state of tube in body, ability to manipulate file to maintain this
2 Things done to create coronal flare?
- Gates glidden burs 2-4 in brushing motion
2. Crown down with rotary NiTi files
NiTi files sequence?
Brown, Green, Blue Red
Apical gauging is what?
Increase glide-path hand file until dentin shavings on 1-2 mm end
