A

There is never one style for all circumstance however in most cases it would be directive leadership
Tell employees exactly what they are supposed to do

Give us an example where you have had conflict with another employee and how was it resolved

A

Field training an experienced officer new hire
Despite training I noticed incomplete investigations and poor file management
After speaking with the officer over the phone he became upset as he felt he was beyond being supervised and did not appreciate my suggestion
I asked to meet the officer in Edmonton to review his check sheet and to go over the files
We met and discussed each file in detail and what possible avenues of investigation could be taken
Files were promptly completed to my satisfaction and other files managed properly
Officer was embarrassed at his lack of expertise

Leadership entailed delegating responsibilities, proposing test methods, analyzing information, communicating with my peers as well as other services. The business case was prepared and approved

A

Smart stakeholder engagement is developing and maintaining relationships so the stakeholder has a better understanding of what CN is and what it stands for
I held meetings with Parkland County regarding a tabletop exercise involving a derailment
I later facilitated the exercise with members of Parkland County, police, fire, EMS , media and school boards. From CN our Dangerous good officer attended as well asInsp Tessier and Transport Canada
It was well received and later proved to be invaluable as a derailment occurred in Gainford and Our internal documents revealed how’s Parkland county knew what to expect from CN as a result of the tabletop

A

Being a trusted advisor is developing a long term relationship with a client built on trust and credibility
Autoport manager regarding security issues at Sarcee Yard
Vehicles stolen
Meetings held with Autoport manager to discuss the best method of reducing risk
Email was sent to Autoport manager with a list of security initiative until proper barricades could be installed
Meeting were held at my request with Calgary Police and S/Sgt Lisi attended to provide expertise
Continued as trusted advisor by attending any drills or testing and providing feedback

I prepared a document outlining how to release on warrants, what courtrooms for particular charges and crown information. After some criminal code investigations I left photocopies of the documentation on my desk

Situation Supervisor tasked me with a very large project with a very limited timeline (explosive dogs searching carry on)
Called supervisor to request more time to conduct testing and prepare a business case. I was not approved for more time
Task speak with Supervisor to resolve conflict
Prepare reasoning for time extension
Understand supervisors point of view
Action. Prepared an outline of my current duties and scheduling
Prepared a calendar of different phases of training, testing and results/feedback with timelines for completion
Prepared a list of human/animal resources that I would require
Prepared a timeline to compile the information to complete an accurate business case
Result supervisor concurred with my presentation and would take this presentation to management
Time extension was granted and working relationship was preserved

A

New Dog handler supervisor.
Last supervisor in Kamloops let the handlers work strictly days and no scheduled training days
I explained that the current schedule was not effective as it not met the demands of the service
I would be changing shifts to crime stats and implementing a training day
Opposition from the Cst who did not want to change
I advised I would review the stats as far as successful tracks, reduced overtime and speak to shift members for feedback
Efficiency improved with a greater success rate and better communication with night shifts
All Cst had positive feedback

A

I would consider anyone who works for me to be an extension of my effectiveness as a leader. I would discuss any problems with the employee individually and honestly. If the work affects the bottom line of the company their shortcomings are also my responsibility

A

Management is about setting and reaching goals and employee/organization relationships. I measure my effectiveness by ensuring I’m meeting my deadlines early and helping to achieve organizational growth, and keeping morale high and those under my supervision engaged and active in their tasks

A

I do my best to show recognition and acknowledgement to all employees that meet their goals, which keeps morale high and employees on task. I keep tasks interdependent within the team so that employees require and encourage fellow employees to complete their work.

A

For each member I have a detailed work sheet of detailed relevant tasks and estimated deadline dates. I speak individually to each member to ensure they agree with the deadlines and answer any questions they may have.
I also schedule regular work in progress meetings to check in on their status

A

Sometimes when working on a large project approaching a deadline I have forgotten to recognize the work done by an excellent employee and to speak to them about their contribution. It is important for me to ensure everyone I work with gets their deserved recognition

A

A position of Inspector is a good fit for what I have been interested in throughout my careers in the RCMP and CN Police
I have always strived for positions of greater responsibility and challenge. I believe in protecting our people an assets and enjoy working with Department managers and other police agencies by providing recommendations on police and security matters.

A

Engineering, Education Enforcement
I would engage engineering in regards to proper signage or any other barriers that would stop trespass
I would engage my CSO and Public Affairs to educate the public and any nearby schools
I would have my officers focus their attention on this issue until it is resolved with enforcement
I would track the results and follow up as to the success of the efforts taken

A

My first question would be why was there not sufficient personnel in the schedule
Any action taken that would contravene the agreement would involve a discussion with the deputy chief and seeking options and a resolution

An officer is underachieving..what do you do

A

If this is a minor infraction I would first take the time to look at the employees work history to see if this is a continuing problem or out of character
I would speak to the officer in private about my concerns and see what the response is. If is it is reasonable and can be resolved then set goals and check on a change in behaviour
Follow up with employee and document the action taken

A

Chiefs visit- requested presentation on high risk trespass and high risk Xing
I contacted each officer and set up a meeting in Edmonton to discuss how to proceed
Meeting held and I proposed a PowerPoint presentation with each member presenting their own territory including photographs and reason why it is high risk
Conflict arose when two members wanted an oral presentation given by only member without graphics
I presented reasons why we should present with the PowerPoint..graphics show the area, visual as well as oral is stronger..more professional
Proposed a vote on how to proceed
Majority vote went to PowerPoint
I provided a template on how each territory should be presented
Result was a professional presentation by all members
