Dx criteria: Chronic insomnia (DSM-5)
A
Associated with distress, impairment of daytime functioning lasting 3+ months for 3+ nights/week, occurs despite adequate opportunity for sleep, not explained by another disorder

A
difficulty falling asleep (30+ min) or staying asleep (30 + min) or early morning wakening (30+ min before desired time)

- inadequate sleep hygiene
- insufficient sleep syndrome (shift work, circadian sleep/wake)
- adjustment sleep disorder (acute emotional stress)
- psychophysiologic insomnia (anticipatory anxiety)
- narcolepsy (cataplexy, hypnagogic hallucinations, sleep paralysis)
