inorganic- chemical equilibrium Flashcards
a chemical reaction is in equilibrium when
the concentration of reactants and products remains constant
The equilibrium constant(k) is not affected
by changes in concentration or pressure
Value ok K(equilibrium constant) is affected by changes in temperature
increase in temperature results in:
increase for endothermic reactions(more product)
decrease for exothermic reactions(less product)
strong acids
completely dissociate into ions in solution. Strong acids include hydrochloric acid and nitric and sulphuric acids.(inorganic acids)
strong bases
completely dissociate into ions in solution. these include soluble metal hydroxides
weak acids
partially dissociated into ions in aqueous solution. weak acids include ethanoic acid, sulphurous and carbonic acids(organic acids)
weak bases
partially dissociated into ions in aqueous solution. these include ammonia and amines.
water is amphoteric which means
it can behave as both a base and an acid
difference between strong and weak acids
weak acids have higher pH than strong acids
weak acids have a lower conductivity
weak acids react at a slower rate
difference between strong and weak bases
weak bases have lower pH than strong acids
weak bases have a lower conductivity
weak bases react at a slower rate
an indicator is just a
weak acid. in an aqueous solution, the colour of the acid indicator is different to that of the conjugate base.
