Innominates Flashcards
What are the anterior landmarks?
Iliac crest, ASIS, pubic tubercles, medial malleolus
What are the posterior bony landmarks?
PSIS, sacral base, inferior lateral angles
Describe rotation of the innominate anteriorly
ASIS -> inferior compared to contralateral side
PSIS -> superior
Ischial tuberosity -> superior
Describe posterior rotation of the innominate
ASIS -> superior
PSIS -> inferior
Ischial tuberosity -> inferior
What motions occur during heel strike (on the right side)?
Right leg swings forward
Right innominate rotates posteriorly
Right heel strikes the ground
What motions occur during toe off (right side)?
Weight is loaded into right foot
Trunk moves forward
Right innominate rotates anteriorly
Which motions occur in the transverse axis?
Flexion and extension Sacral flexion (sacral nutation) Sacral extension (sacral counternutation)
What motions occur around an oblique axis?
Rotation (vertical axis tilted)
What are the steps for assessing the innominates for somatic dysfunction?
- Screen the innominates for SD then further diagnose
2. Lateralization tests (ASIS compression and standing flexion test)
Describe the ASIS compression test
Motion challenge: posterior medial compression (assessing sacroiliac joint)
Restriction of posterior medial motion
Harder end feel
Describe the standing flexion test
Motion challenge: stability during flexion
-assessing ability of SI joint to stabilize
PSIS will move more superior on dysfunctional side
-carried superior by musculature
Describe a right anterior rotated innominate
Lateralization test positive on right Iliac crest even ASIS right inferior PSIS right superior Pubic tubercles even Medial malleoli right inferior
Describe a right posterior rotated innominate
Positive lateralization test on the right Iliac crests even ASIS superior on R PSIS inferior on R Pubic tubercles even Medial malleoli right superior
Describe a right superior innominate shear
\+ lateralization test on R Iliac crest R superior ASIS R superior PSIS R superior Pubic tubercles R superior Medial malleoli R superior
Describe a right inferior innominate shear
\+ right lateralization test Iliac crest right inferior ASIS right inferior PSIS right inferior Pubic tubercles R inferior Medial maleolli right inferior
