Innervation Flashcards
What cranial nerves innervate the pharynx?
IX (Glossopharyngeal) and X (Vagus)
What nerves are responsible for motor innervation of the pharynx?
Glossopharyngeal (IX)
Vagus (X)
Allied spinal accessory (XI)
Recurrent laryngeal nerve
What nerves are responsible for sensory innervation of the pharynx?
Glossopharyngeal (IX to oropharynx region)
Vagus (X) to remainder of pharynx
What are the muscles of mastication?
Masseter, Temporalis, Pterygoideus externus, Pterygoideus internus
What are the muscles of the tongue?
Styloglossus, Hyoglossus, Genioglossus, Palatoglossus
What are the muscles of the palate?
- Palataglossus, Palatopharyngeus, Levator palatal muscle
What CN(s) innervate(s) the larynx?
Vagus (X); RLN all except CT (which is the SLN)
What are the muscles with attachments to the hyoid?
Mylohyoid, Anterior belly of digastric, Geniohyoid, Posterior belly of digastric, Stylohyoid
What CN innervates the muscles of mastication?
CN V (mandibular branch of trigiminal nerve)
Describe tongue innervation for sensation.
Anterior 2/3:
- General sensation- lingual nerve (V3)
- Taste- Chorda Tympani (VII)
Posterior 1/3:
- General sensation- glossopharyngeal (IX)
- Taste- glossopharyngeal (IX)
What CN(s) innervate(s) the muscles of the tongue?
CN XII; Except palatoglossus –> Pharyngeal plexus
What CN(s) innervate(s) the muscles of the palate?
CN X , XI and cervical sympathetic fibers
(pharyngeal plexus)
What CN(s) innervate(s) the muscles of the hyoid?
CN V (Trigeminal), CN XII (Hypoglossal) , CN VII (Facial)
