Inner Formulas SHL Flashcards

1
Q

Guizhi Tang

In Taiyang disease, with headache and fever, sweating and aversion to wind, Guizhi Tang governs. (SHL13)

When Taiyang has been struck by wind, yang pulses are floating and yin pulses weak. In a floating yang pulse, fever effuses spontaneously; in weak yin pulses, sweat issues spontaneously. If there is huddled aversion to cold, and wetted aversion to wind, feather like heat effusion, noisy nose and dry retching, Guizhi Tang governs. (SHL12)

When patients have no other illnesses, but occasionally have fever, and spontaneous sweating that don’t cure, then this is a disharmony of protective qi, and the promotion of sweating ahead of time will cure, for Guizhi Tang is indicated. (SHL54)

Q

Gancao Ganjiang Tang

When in cold damage, the pulse is floating and (there is) spontaneous sweating, frequent urination, heart vexation, mild aversion to cold, and hypertonicity of the feet, but Guizhi Tang is given in order to attack the exterior, there is an error. If (the person) is given this formula, there will be reversal, a dryness in the throat, vexation and agitation, and counterflow vomiting, (so one should use) Gancao Ganjiang Tang to restore yang. If a counterflow (patient) recovers, and the feet become warm, one can then use Shaoyao
Gancao Tang and the feet will then (be able to) stretch. If the stomach qi is disharmonious and (there is) delirious speech, give a little Tiaowei Chengqi Tang. If sweating has been promoted repeatedly, and red hot needling was used, Sini Tang governs. (SHL29)

For lung withering and spitting up of slime and foam, without coughing, but the person is not thirsty, there must be incontinence and frequent urination. Why is that? Because the upper is deficient and cannot control the lower, for this is cold in the lung, with
imperative dizziness, and copious slime and saliva, use Gancao Ganjiang Tang to warm. (JG 7)

(Here, in) cold damage (the disease) has not resolved in thirteen days, (and there is) fullness in the chest and rib-side, retching, late afternoon tidal heat effusion, and shortly afterward mild diarrhea. This was originally a (Da) Chaihu Tang pattern in which precipitation should not cause diarrhea, yet now (in the present case there is) diarrhea, so (one) knows a pill medicine was used to precipitate, and this is not the (appropriate) treatment. Tidal heat effusion means repletion. It is appropriate to first take Xiao Chaihu Tang in order to resolve the external (aspect). Afterwards, Chaihu Jia Mangxiao Tang

Q

Didang Tang

In Taiyang disease that has lasted six to seven days, the surface pattern is still present, the pulse is faint and deep, but there is no chest bind, and the person is as if mad, for this is heat in the lower burner, and there must be hard fullness in the lower abdomen, for the person whose urination is smooth, there must be downpour of blood which indicates curation. Why is this, for taiyang follows the channel, and stasis heat is in the interior, so Didang Tang governs. (SHL 124)

In Taiyang disease, when the body is yellow, pulse is deep and knotted, the lower abdomen is hard, and urination is unsmooth, this indicates that there is no blood; when urination is smooth, and the person is as if mad, this is truly a blood pattern, and Didang
Tang governs. (SHL 125)

When in Yangming disease the person is forgetful, there will be blood amassment. Why this is so is because originally there was enduring blood amassment, thus causing forgetfulness and stool, that although hard, is nevertheless easy to pass, and that will be
black in color. It is appropriate to precipitate with Didang Tang. (SHL 237)
