what is an acute injury
A
sudden injury due to traumatic event.
e.g fractures in boxers jaw or ligament tear after a bad tackle.

what is a chronic injury
A
injury which occurs over a period time which repeated and continuous stress or overuse. often referred to as overuse injuries.

what is a hard tissue injury
A
- involve damage to the bone, joint or cartilage.
- These can include fractures of dislocations.
- These can result in internal bleeding, circulatory problems and joint instability usually requiring hospital treatment.

what is a soft tissue injury
A
- most common in sport and include strains and sprains of muscles, tendons or ligaments.
- can result in inflammation and bruising (internal bleeding’) and require immediate attention to minimise recovery times.

what is shin splints
A
- chronic shin pain, as a result of repeated overuse of the tibialis anterior.

what is tendonitis
A
- deterioration of a tendons collagen in response to chronic overuse.
- 2 common types are Achilles tendinosis and tennis elbow.
