injury and rehab - types of fractures Flashcards

1
Q

what is a fracture

A
  • hard tissue injury
  • partial or complete break in a bone due to an excessive force that overcomes the bones potential to flex.
  • Normally comes from a direct force (from a collision or object) or an indirect force (falling or poor technique).
  • Common indications of a fracture are pain at the site, inability to move or unnatural movement, deformity, swelling, and discolouration.
  • All fractures are serious, however the sign, symptoms, length and type of treatment will depend on the type of fracture diagnosed.

Q

what is a simple fracture

A
  • also known as a closed fracture
  • the skin remains unbroken as the fracture causes little movement of the bone and therefore minimises the damage to the soft tissue surrounding it.
