Pasteurella multocida - cat and dog bites - within 24 hrs, local cellulitis
Staph aureus - dog and human - > 24 hrs
Bartonella henselae- cat and flea bites - children and immunocompromised
Streptobacillus momiliformis -rats, squirrel, rodents - fever, vomiting, myalgia, rash
Clinical features bites
Usually on dominant hand/arm
Check neurovascular status
Damage to tendons
Infection signs - necrotising fasciitis or tracking lymphangitis
Bites investigations
Plain film radiograph
Routine bloods
Purulent material swanned
Sepsis 6?
Management bites
Stop bleeding
Wound cleaning
Photographs
Tetanus
Oral abx
Consider admission
Washed with saline or formal surgical washouts
Any non viable tissue derided
Carpal tunnel decompression if tracking pus seen
