What is the “triple dip”?
Guaifenesin + xylazine + ketamine
What drugs cannot be used in stallions and why?
Acepromazine
- causes priapism
What drug cannot be used in foals <4 weeks?
a-2-agonists
Use diazepam + ketamine instead
Why use combination drugs for sedation?
If not used in combination with LA, or if required further pain control
What drugs should not be used in horses?
Anti-cholinergics (unless to prevent bradycardia) as cause colic
Technique for injectable anaesthesia in horses
Inject LA near jugular farrow
Inject GA into jugular, approximately half way down neck
Sedation used in pigs
Azaperone + metomidate
Thiopental
Diazepam + ketamine
Short term anaesthesia in pigs?
Thiopental
Long-term anaesthesia in pigs?
Xylazine + ketamine
Ketamine midazolam
Technique for injectable anaesthesia in pigs
Inject into vena auricularis - for small amounts
Into vena cava cranialis (between scapula) when they are already anaesthetised
