What is trimethroprim used for?
UTI’s.
Trimethroprim and sulfamethoxazole together are called?
Co-trimoxazole. Used in chest infections to prevent C.diff development.
Which antibiotic provides the only possible oral treatment of gram negative Pseudomonas?
Quinolones. Also used for staph and strep (gram positive).
What is used for lower UTI infections?
Nitrofuratoin.
Why can ciproflaxacin not be used in children?
May interfere with cartilage growth. It is a fluoroquinolone that is used for gram negative infection.
What does levofloxacin treat?
Community-acquired pneumonia (Mycoplasma pneumoniae).
What is metronidazole used for?
Anaerobic bacteria, gram positive or negative. Can treat C.diff.
