MDI 3 steps:

A
  1. shake inhaler well for 5 seconds before each spray.
  2. Breathe out fully
  3. while breathing in slowly administer dose by pressing down on canister. Hold breath for 10 seconds then breath normally

A
  1. thumb grip
  2. Hold in flat position and slide mouthpiece until a click is heard
  3. breathe out fully
  4. breath in quickly and deeply through the inhaler. Do not breathe in through your nose.
  5. Rinse mouth out with water and spit. Do close live

Pulmicort Flexhaler Prep

A
  1. twist off white cover and twist the brown base fully in one direction as far as it will go and then twist it fully back you will hear a click - this is now primed.
    repeat and then the dose is now loaded
  2. breathe in deeply and forcefully through the inhaler. Rinse mouth out and spit

How do you prime Ipratropium (Atrovent HFA)?

A

Spray 2 times away from face. Prime again if it has not been used in > 3 days

(you can rinse the mouthpiece)

Tiotropium (Spiriva Handihaler)

A
  1. open the Handihaler device by pressing on the green button and lifting the cap upwards. Open the mouthpiece.
  2. remove the Spiriva capsule from the blister pack and insert into the chamber. close the mouthpiece firmly against the gray base until you hear a click
  3. Press the green piercing button ONCE until flat again the base
  4. breath away
  5. in a horizontal position, breath in deeply and fully to the inhaler. you should be able to hear/feel a rattle

MUST INHALE TWICE TO GET THE FULL DOSE

Aclidinium (Tudorza Presser)

A
  1. remove protective cap
  2. check control window with mouthpiece facing you. The dose is ready to go IF it changed from red to green. Breathe out completely, away from the inhaler
  3. breathe in quickly and deeply through your mouth until you hear a click
  4. check to confirm that the control window has tuned red.
