inhalant - my q's Flashcards

1
Q

effects

A
  • produce GA with predictable, adjustable depth

- anaesthetic gas reaches blood depending on: difference in drug partial pressure & drug fat solubility

Q

MAC = minimum alveolar concentration

A
  • defined as the minimum alveolar partial pressure of an anaesthetic gas which prevents gross purposeful movements to surgical stimuli
  • depends on the potency and gas PC
  • IMPORTANT*
  • the smaller the drug MAC, the higher the drug potency
  • the higher the drug PC (the more soluble) the lower the drug MAC

Q

inhalants

A
  • halothane: least soluble
  • isoflurane: 2nd least soluble
  • sevoflurane: 3rd least soluble
  • desflurane: most insoluble

side effects
- cardiovascular depressiom (decreased cardiac output due to decreased contractility)
- resp depression
