inhalant - my q's Flashcards
1
Q
effects
A
- produce GA with predictable, adjustable depth
- anaesthetic gas reaches blood depending on: difference in drug partial pressure & drug fat solubility
2
Q
MAC = minimum alveolar concentration
A
- defined as the minimum alveolar partial pressure of an anaesthetic gas which prevents gross purposeful movements to surgical stimuli
- depends on the potency and gas PC
- IMPORTANT*
- the smaller the drug MAC, the higher the drug potency
- the higher the drug PC (the more soluble) the lower the drug MAC
3
Q
inhalants
A
- halothane: least soluble
- isoflurane: 2nd least soluble
- sevoflurane: 3rd least soluble
- desflurane: most insoluble
side effects
- cardiovascular depressiom (decreased cardiac output due to decreased contractility)
- resp depression
