Where is the deep inguinal ring?
1.5 cm above the femoral pulse
Mid-point inguinal ligament (ASIS –> pubic tubercle)

In a split in the external oblique aponeurosis- superior and medial to pubic tubercle.

Inguinal ligament

Transversus abdominus and internal oblique

External oblique
What is the posterior wall of the inguinal canal?
Transversals fascia + conjoint tendon (lateral 1/3rd)

Pubic tubercle
What is lateral to the inguinal canal?
Deep inguinal ring

Spermatic cord: includes:
Arteries (testicular, artery to the vas and the cremasteric arteries),
Veins (pampiniform plexus),
Lymphatic vessels,
Nerves (genital branch of genitofemoral, sympathetic nerves)
Processes vaginalis
Ilioinguinal nerve
What is the contents of the inguinal canal in women?
Round ligament of uterus
Genital branch of genitofemoral nerve

What are the borders of Hesselbach’s triangle?
Laterally: Inferior epigastric artery
Medially: Rectus abdominus
Inferiorly: Inguinal ligament
What is the significance of Hesselbach’s triangle?
The area of entry of direct hernias through the posterior wall
