Infrahyoid Strap Muscles Flashcards
What is the blood supply of the infrahyoid muscles?
Superior and inferior thyroid arteries
What is the venous drainage of the infrahyoid muscles?
Superior and inferior thyroid veins
Which infrahyoids are on the superficial plane and which are on the deep plane?
Omohyoid and sternohyoid superficial, sternothyroid and thyrohyoid deep
What is the action of the omohyoid?
Depresses hyoid bone
What are the attachments of the omohyoid?
. Inferior belly runs from clavicle and connects to superior belly via intermediate tendon (tendon anchored to clavicle be deep cervical fascia)
. Superior belly runs from intermediate tendon to hyoid bone
What is the innervation of the omohyoid?
Anterior rami of C1-C3m carried by a branch of the ansa cervicalis
What is the action of the sternohyoid?
Depresses hyoid bone
What are the attachments of the sternohyoid bone?
Originates from manubrium of sternum, attaches to hyoid bone (runs medially to omohyoid)
What is the innervation of the sternohyoid?
Anterior rami of C1-C3, carried by a branch of the ansa cervicalis
What is the action of the sternothyroid?
Depresses thyroid cartilage
What are the attachments of the sternothyroid?
Originates from manubrium, attaches to thyroid cartilage
What is the innervation of the sternothyroid?
Anterior rami of C1-C3, carried by a branch of the ansa cervicalis
What is the action of the thyrohyoid
Depresses hyoid bone, or can elevate thyroid cartilage and larynx when hyoid bone is fixed
What are the attachments of the thyrohyoid?
Originates from thyroid cartilage, attaches to hoid bone
What is the innervation of the thyrohyoid?
Anterior ramus of C1, which is carried within the hypoglossal nerve
