What is information
Information is data that has been contextualised or categorised
What is knowledge

What is intelligence

What are the five major data literacy areas
Collect
Read
Work
Analyse
Communicate
What is the difference between primary and secondary sources
Primary sources (first hand data) is collected by the person or team who needs it and directly relates to the issue being looked at
Secondary sources are ones collected by others for a different purpose but some elements prove useful
What should you do to data before using it
If it is of low quality it will need ‘cleansing’ eg making sure formats are consistent, spelling is corrrect, missing data is added, inaccurate data is removed
Remember missing data cannot be ignored
If you get an empty piece of data you have to decide whether to remove the line or replace the missing data
What is descriptive analytics
Insights into What happened
What is diagnostic analytics
Insights into why something happened
What is predictive analytics
Insights into what might happen in the future
What is prescriptive analytics
Find songs are analysed to determine what could be done now and in the future
You start off by understanding the data
What things should you do to get that picture
If you have a new data set plot charts to visualise it - should give you an idea about what is missing and what the information is like
Only when you know the quality, where it’s come from and what it looks like should you do anything complicated
