Informal carers Flashcards
Psychological, social, biological impacts of informal caregiving?
Financial - have to give up careers to care full-time
Biological - physical labour involved if the dependent is immobile, can be difficult for elderly carers
Social - time pressures mean they have less time for outside leisure and to maintain friendships, they have to give up their career to do something undervalued by society - lose social status, less autonomy and increased dependence on others for support with caring, less independence and social participation = social isolation
Psychological - increased dependency = more tension in relationship, the person who is dependent may not be able to express their frustration about their physical condition if the person caring for them is an informal carer
