what are government orgs
government establishes the legal framework by which employers, employees and trade unions coexist and operate within the employment relationship. They include:
Fair Work Commission (largest government organisation) : an independent body that was established in 2010 by the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth). The Commission’s primary functions include
- settlements of industrial disputes -(conciliation) or arbitration
- determine minimum wages
- federal court of aus
- workplace gender equality agency

- workplace must be reflective of behaviours and beliefts upheld within society

pros/cons of modern awards
sets a minimum (justice)
-protects employees from exploitation
con- prevents recognition of indiviudal initiative as all employees paid same (some work harder/others r lazy on days)
what r enterprise agreements
a negotiated agreement about paying conditions of employment between an employer and a group of employees or a trade union.
* It offers broader terms and conditions than a modern award and can either replace a modern award or act as an ‘add on agreement.’
-must be approved by fair work comission using BOOT approach
