Concept of houses set up in which boys were played, caused regular house matches to take place. Staff became involved
Public schools had lots of money from fees paid by parents to attend. Afford good facilities equipment and coaches
Boarded so lots of free time
Played prestigious matches against teams such as MCC
Both factors made sport more significant and raised standard
Rules had to be standardised as not everyone local
Inter house and inter school matches
