Inflammatory Process: Concepts of Soft Tissue Healing Flashcards
1
Q
What are the 3 phases of healing?
A
- Inflammation
- Proliferation
- Remodeling
2
Q
What are the 4 phases of tissue healing?
A
- Hemostasis: Stopping of blood (the storm)
- Inflammatory Response: (immediate aftermath of storm)
- Proliferation/fibroblastic (clean up and repair or connective tissue)
- Remodeling/maturation phase (restoration)
3
Q
What is Hemostasis and when does it occur?
A
- Occurs during the initial reaction to injury.
- Def: Stoppage of blood flow to the area.
- Vasoconstriction.
- Initiation of histamine
- Increases cell permeability (ability of substance to pass through it.)
- Allows white blood cells to enter
4
Q
What are platelets?
A
- Cell fragments in our blood that form clots to stop or prevent bleeding.
- Cytokines: Regulate immune response.
- Release phospholipids: Stimulating clot formation.
5
Q
What is the inflammatory response?
A
- Needed for healing to occur
