Inflammatory Jaw Lesions Flashcards
It can be caused by mechanical manipulation or by the application of chemicals in endodontic procedures
Periapical abscess
If a periapical access is not treated, it can lead to:
Osteomyelitis
Cellulitis
Bacteremia
Also called as “focal sclerosing osteomyelitis” that represents a focal bony reaction to a low grade-inflammatory stimulus. Most common in young adults; assymptomatic, well circumscribed radiopacity at the apex of an infected tooth.
Condensing osteitis
The lesion is attached to the tooth but the entire root outline is always visible na there’s no radiolucent rim; commonly found in premolar areas of the mandible
Condensing osteitis
Lesions that appear radiographically similar to condensing osteitis:
Cementoblastomas
Focal cemento osseous dysplasia
Idiopathic osteosclerosis
Diffuse sclerosing osteomyelitis
