Neutrophil Calprotectin Test (NCT)
high in IBD
What are 2 investigations that can be done

Colonoscopy w/tissue biopsy
X-ray => Toxic megacolon + exclude perforation
What drug can be given to both Crohn’s and UC
5-ASA (Sulfasalazine)
What drug can be given to UC but not Crohn’s
Methotrexate*
*just less effective not toxic etc.
What are 3 complications of UC
Toxic megacolon
Increased risk of colon cancer
Osteoporosis (steroid use)
What are 5 complications of Crohn’s
Stricture formation
Fistula formation
Pyoderma Gangrenosum (ulcer on skin)
Anaemia
Osteoporosis
