Inflammation, Regeneration, Repair (Yurchenko) Flashcards
Leukocyte Adhesion Deficiency
Deficiency in leukocyte adhesion due to an integrin or selectin mutation (LAD 1, 3 respectively)
Myeloperoxidase Deficiency
Decreased microbial killing due to defective MPO-H2O2 system, leading to fungal infections or asymptomatic
-less severe than CGD
Chediak-Hidashi Syndrome
Decreased leukocyte function due to mutation in proteins responsible for lysosomal membrane trafficking
-Causes infections, CNS issues
Chronic Inflammation
Unlike Acute, angiogenesis and fibrogenesis (CT formation) take place. Fibroblast migration can cause thickening of alveoli, abscess/encapsulation/necrotic center walling off infection
Empyema
Accumulation of pus in existing body cavity
Granulatory Inflammation
In addition to chronic factors, need hypoxia to initiate
VEGF
pro-angiogenic factor secreted by leukocytes in chronic inflammatory response
Fibrosis
Caused by fibroblasts creating ton of collagen and ECM in chronic inflammatory response, then leaving acellular area
Chronic Granulomatous Disease
Caused by lack of NADPH activity (decreased oxidative burst)
- male>female
- chronic, multiple infections of skin and immune tissues
- Forms granuloma, abcess, fibroblasts wall around necrotic center
