Inflammation Flashcards
1
Q
Where are lipid mediators derived from?
A
- Arachidonic acid
- Released by phosopholipases when activated by toll-like receptors
2
Q
Cytokines?
A
Interleukins
Interferons
TNF
- Promote inflammation
3
Q
What do lipid mediators do?
A
- Convert amino acids into COX1 and COX2, which are recognised by prostaglandins
- AA into leukotrines, which are chemoattractants of neutrophills
4
Q
What is defective phagocytosis?
A
- Occurs in chronic inflammation
- High M1, no transition to M2
- M1 is pro-inflammatory, tissue destruction
5
Q
Where are protein mediators released from?
A
Macrophages in response to activation of PRRs by PAMPs and DAMPs
6
Q
What does prostaglandins do?
A
1) Increase permeability of vessels by causing mast cells to release granules containing histamine
- And by increasing endothelial spaces
2) Regulate vasodilation/vasoconstriction
7
Q
Chemokines?
A
Chemoattractants for leukocytees
