Inflammation Flashcards

1
Q

What needs to happen for the inflammatory response to happen?

A

Vascular response ( increased blood flow to the site of injury), cellular response (alert healing products to come to the site of injury), and removing the injured tissue to prepare for healing

Q

Why is the inflammatory response so important in healing?

A

Getting blood to the site of injury allows cells that participate in phagocytosis to come to the area. It also allows platelets to come to the area and clot

Q

Acute vs chronic inflammation

A

Acute: resolves within a few weeks, Neutrophils are the chief cells, and results in minimal scarring
Chronic: lasts more than 6 months, chief cells are Lymphocytes, Monocytes, and Macrophages, and usually results in some scarring

Q

Three phases of wound healing

A

Inflammatory (seals the wound), proliferative (cleans the debris and restores structural integrity), Remodeling (structural integrity and remodeling)
