what is the treatment advice with scabies otc products? how should pt apply?
single application leave on for 8-12 hours [for permetherin and 24 hours for malathion] and then wash off
2 treatments 7 days apart. apply to entire body and treat everyone in same house
what are the symptoms of headlice?
live lice
nits and eggs in hair
itchy scalp
what otc products can you recommend for headlice?
how do you advice pt to apply these products?
dimeticone [hedrin]
permethrin/malathion
2 applications 7 days apart to treat hatched lice
in which types of pt would you avoid alcoholic headlice preparations? which preparations are better for these pt?
in asthma or eczema pt
aqueous lotion better for eczema pt [eg malathion aqueous lotion]
what are symptoms of threadworms>
perianal itching
worse at night
when would you refer someone with threadworms?
recent travel abroad
infection from scratching skin
treatment failure
what is the otc product to treat threadworms? [what is the age requirement? who is it contraindicated in?
mebendazole [2+]
avoid in pregnant woment
what is the advice for pregnant women and children under 2 who have threadworms?
