A
40-60 seconds, longer if in contact with bodily fluids, infectious wound, or contaminated patient.

Isolation precautions
A
- Cart with PPE and other necessary equipment outside room
- Directions for use
- Containers for disposal - Color coded card with directions for proper PPE and cleaning

Contact precautions
A
- Infectious organisms transferred directly from one infected person to another, or indirectly through equipment, surfaces, or objects.
- MRSA, VRE, C.diff, lice, scabies
- PPE, gloves, gown
- Clean hands when leaving and entering
- Private room
- Use patient-dedicated or disposable equipment
- Clean and disinfect shared equipment

Droplet precautions
A
- Transmitted through directly or indirectly by respiratory droplets
- Strep throat, meningitis, pneumonia, influenza, common cold, pertussis (whooping cough), smallpox, mumps
- ## PPE, mask when within 3ft of pt, gown and gloves when possible contact with body fluids

Airborne precautions
A
- Transmitted by tiny infectious particles in respirable size range
- TB, measles, varicella (chicken pox)
- PPE, N-95 mask and fit testing, gown, gloves
- Private room with negative airflow
- ## Keep door closed

Protective Isolation
A
- “Reverse isolation”, “Neutropenic precautions”
- Used for pts with compromised immune systems
- Wear PPE to protect pt, gloves, glown, mask, wash hands
- Pt dedicated or disposable equipment
