PPE
(Gown, gloves, face shield)
When should PPE be worn?
Putting patients on/off, cleaning machines, blood spills, etc.)
What is the #1 infection control practice?
Hand washing
At least 3 minutes, hand sanitizer for 30 secs at the least
What is the “sharps container” for?
Anything that can puncture. Broken glass should never be picked up by hand, use broom and dust pan.
What is Hep B?
Blood Borne pathogen
What is the isolation room used for?
Hep. B positive patients are dialyzed in isolation with separate PPE from other patients.
What are the 3 drug resistant infections?
MRSA, VRE, and VRSA
Where should drug resistant patients be treated?
In a separate room, not iso. With own BP cuff and stethoscope.
If a patient is TB active, do we treat them?
No
If a patient seems to have TB, what should you do?
Give them a mask and have the RN call the physician for orders immediately.
If anyone is potentially exposed to HIV, how long do they have to receive prophylaxis?
