Infection control 2 Flashcards
Morphology
Science/ study of the form and structure of organisms
OSHA ( occupational safety and health administration)
To ensure safe and healthful working conditions for workers
ex- provide trainings and education
Parasites
Organism that lives on or in a host organism and gets food from and expense of its host
Pathogen
A micro-organism that causes or can cause a disease
PPE
Personal Protective Equipment for workers
Ex- helmets,masks, gloves, glasses
Protozoa
a single celled organism that can divide only within a host organism. They play an important role in fertility of soils
Rickettsiae
A diverse collection of bacteria found in ticks, lice causes infections that disseminate in blood to many organs
Sanitization
Process of making something free to or from bacteria or living microorganism
Shelf life
Period of time during which material like (food or drugs) that may be stored and remain suitable for use
Spores
A cell that certain fungi plants and bacteria produce
Standard Precautions
Set of infection control practices used to prevent transmission of disease that can be acquired with blood and bodily fluids
Sterilization
The process that destroys or eliminates all forms of microbial life. This can be done physically or with a chemical method
Susceptible
State of being predisposed to, or sensitive to, developing a particular disease
Vector
Living organism that transmits an infectious agent from infected animal to human or another animal
Viruses
Small living particles that can affect cells and change how the cell functions
