Microorganism
A small living organism that isn’t visible to the banked eye
Pathogen
A microorganism that causes disease and infections sometimes called germs
Bacteria
Simple prokaryotes, one called organism that can multiple quickly
Protozoa
One called organism, eukaryote, that is found in decayed material or contaminated water
Fungi
A simple plant like organism that live in dead organic matter (yeast or mold)
Rickettsiae
Parasitic microorganisms meaning they live inside cells of another living thing (fleas, lice, ticks)
Viruses
Smallest microorganism. Spread from human to human by blood and other secretions. Antibiotics don’t work
Endogenous
Infection that originates within the body
Exogenous
Infection that originates outside of the body
Nosocomial
An infection that is acquired by an individual in a healthcare facility like a hospital
Opportunistic
Occurs when the bodies defenses are weak

Making a tourniquet
- Call 911
- Tie ends of bandage around stick
- Turn the stick to tighten until bleeding stops
4 note the time applied
5 monitor
Wound cleaning
- Avoid alcohol
- Hydrogen peri oxide, saline solution, iodine, mild soap and water on and around area
- Remove debris
4 apply antibiotics to bandage
5 apply bandage
6 secure w tape
7 clean often and daily by following steps
Tooth injury (tooth in)
1 check for missing, loose parts of teeth
2 clean wound with saline or clean water
3 have person bite down on gauze
Tooth injury (tooth out)
1DONT TOUCH THE ROOT
2 put tooth in cup of milk or clean water
3 transport person and tooth to emergency dentist
Penetrated objects
1 clean around the area
2 control bleeding
3 LEAVE OBJECT IN
4 transport to ER and document
Amputations
1 rinse amputated part w clean water
2 wrap in clean dressing
3 place in plastic bag
4 place bag in ice
5 send to ER
Minor burns
1 cool it immediately w cold, not ice, water until it doesn’t hurt
2 cover with dry- NON STICK dressing
