Define a pathegon.
A pathegon is a microorganism which enters the body and causes disease.
What does bacteria release?
Toxins.
Name the three ways which pathegons can be spread.
Water, air and contact.
What does MMR stand for?
Measles Mumps Rubella
What is salmonella?
A type of bacteria that causes food poisoning.
What are the four types of pathegons.
Bacteria, virus, protists, fungus.
Define phagocytosis.
When the white blood cells engulf foreign cells.
What do microbes have on them?
Antigens.
Define a vaccination.
When dead or inactive pathegons are injected into your bloodstream. They carry antigens which produce antibodies to attack them.
What does mutation mean?
Change.
What do red blood cells do?
They carry oxygen around the body.
What are platelets?
Small fragments of cells which help the blood to clot.
What is a antigen?
A protein on the surface of cells.
