What is the presentation of CMPA
- Loose watery frequent stools
- Abdo pain
- excessive flatulence
- audible bowel sounds
- infant colic
- nappy rash
- blood or offensive stools
- constipation
- GORD
- food refusal
- eczema
- wheeze or cough
- Hives (urticaria)
- angioedema
- anaphylaxis
- family history of allergies
What causes lactose intolerance
Reduced level of the enzyme lactase - cant breakdown lactose so it is fermemented by bacteria which causes the symptoms such as distention and discomfort
What is the feed choice for feeding and formula in CMPA
- first line - Extensively hydrolysed protein feeds
- 2nd line - amino acid formula
What is the first step of management in breast feeding and formula in CMPA
Advise mother to exclude milk from diet for 4 weeks
What is given to infants for Vitamin D
- 10 ug vitamin D a day from birth to one year unless they are on over 500ml of infant formula
- 10 ug vitamin D a day for every one over one year of age
