Infants and intellectual development
Attention span: no longer than a minute for a single action type of activity such as playing with a toy. May give extra attention to things (games or objects) found interesting.
infants and physical development
Motor skill development: New born infant not much control over body but will soon learn to lift head and roll. Reflexes have been developed, later being replaced by controlled movements as motor skills develop. At six months, infants will start crawling.
Early childhood in emotional development
developing self-concept: Begin to develop an identity that’ll continue form for years to come. They learn to see themselves as being a seperate person from others and begin associating certain things with themselves such as ownership of a toy.
early childhood in intellectual development
Language: Learning new words and how to use language occurs rapidly. A key part of child’s intellectual development. By age 5, a child knows approximately 1500 words-2500.
Early childhood in physical development
Growth: Slow and steady. Height increases 6 cm per year during stage. Limbs and torso become more proportionate to the head. Body fat levels decreases, giving child a leaner body.
Emotional development for infants
Learning appropriate ways of expressing and communicating emotions: Infants can express happiness and anger by 8 months. Infants get frustrated if interrupted in activities, e.g. playing games. When Infants express frustration which is stems from anger, it may lead to tantrum throwing. By 12 months, infants become more sensitive to approval from parents and may become upset if no approval.
