Motor Carrier
Any fleet registered with the FMCSA
DOT
Department of Transportation operating authority
DOT Number
Unique number given to each Motor Carrier. We use to target the company during sales. (Different from the KT #, which is assigned to a company when they register for an account with KT)
DOT Audit
DOT regularly audits fleets. Fleets must provide auditor with the last 12 months of logs for all drivers and the last 90 days of Inspection Reports
Roadside Inspection
Roadside inspectors can ask drivers to produce last 8 days of logs and inspection reports. KT’s Inspection Mode allows drivers to show their logs to an officer on their device or email/fax their logs to the officer from the app
Cab Card
Document carried by driver to show an officer how to use an ELD or EOBR
Citation/Ticket
If an officer finds an issue with driver logs, the officer can give the driver a citation or ticket
CSA Scores
used by the FMCSA to identify motor carriers and drivers that are high-risk and may require intervention. A carrier’s score is based on the performance of its drivers, including all safety-based roadside inspection violations and state-reported crashes
Drayage
refers to the transportation of cargo over a short distance, or as a part of a longer distance
Terminal
home base for a fleet of trucks
150-mile Radius
Drivers that travel beyond a 150-mile radius from their terminal must track their Hours of Service (HOS) logs
Drop and Hook
Dropping a loaded trailer off and picking up a different trailer. Reduces detention time
Crossdock
A warehouse used for short-term storage and rearrangement of loads.
Live Unload
The freight will be removed from the truck/container (alternative is drop & hook)
Lumper
3rd party guy that helps load/unload, usually paid hourly
