Steps of CCMA
Conciliation- parties in disputed get together with neutral 3rd party
Mediation- process of making recommendations to parties
Arbitration- dispute given to 3rd party to make final decision
Adjudication- dispute may go to labour court
Collective bargaining
Bargaining council- collective agreement for certain sector
Statutory council- sectors that have no collective bargaining( solve disputes )
Working forum - joint decision making in work place

Discipline procedure

Protected strike
- Dispute may be referred to in writing to CCMA
- CCMA has 30 days to resolve dispute through conciliation
- If conciliation fails ,CCMA writes certificate saying dispute has not been resolved
- 48 hours written notice must be given of proposed strike to employer
A strike is not protected if
A collective agreement says employees may not strike , as well as correct procedures have not been followed.
