Industrial feedstuff Flashcards
Feeding urea
- Non-protein- good source of N (46%)
- ONLY FOR RUMINANTS, (can be lethal in other animals)
- young cattle up to 10g, dairy - up to 20g, fattening - 30g - MUST NOT be in form of liquid, cannot be poured
- plenty of easily digestible carbs in FR (Feed ration??)
- increased ration - cardiac dis. rhythm, respiratory, nervous
- OVERDOSE - 1.5l of vinegar + 4l of water + 1kg of sugar
Fish meal
- NS - different kind of fish, varied from 52-68%
- excellent source of protein and essential amino acids
- rich in minerals: Ca, P, Co, Vitamins A, D and B12
- some - rich in NaCl (risk of intoxication - should be less than 3%)
- Bad effects on meat taste and smell on eggs (not last term in fattening)
- FM - pigs, poultry, carnivora, fish…
Blood meal
- rich in protein (85%) and lysine
- dried blood from healthy animals from slaughter house
- low in minerals, low in arginine and methionine
- short drying - moulding
- FEED MIXTURE for carnivores and fish ONLY
Meat and bone meal
- more P content here, more than 4.4% P
- in rendering plants - slaughter waste w/low risk
- FEED MIXTURE for carnivores + fur animals
- From poultry and swine also for fish
- content depend on portion of muscles, bones, fat….
- NS - 1st quality class, min 54%
Poultry meal
- parts of carcass - heads, feet, intestines, blood
- brownish-yellow colour
- NS - min 55%, fat 12%, Ash <18%
- FEED MIXTURE for carnivores, fish
Dried yeast
- product from molasses fermentation
- microorganisms separated and dried
- NS - about 50%, high biological value (Limiting AA - methionine)
- ALL ANIMALS, ESPECIALLY MONOGASTRIC
- prohibition - candida yeast cultivated on n-alkanes
Dry milk – spray drying
- better quality and price than the rolled dry milk
- fine white powder
Dry milk – roller drying
- Brownish-yellow, Maillard reaction, worse digestibility, flakey
- Darker than sprayed
- Lower quality
- Only for young animals as milk replacers
Potato flakes
-Saccharide
Torula
- torula - yeast, Torulopsis utilis
- High amount of B-complex- reproduction + young
- Used in special diets
Malt sprouts
- removed in preparation of malted barley
- brownish-yellow colour,
- NS 26%, rich in P, and K,E,B vitamins
- VERY GOOD dietetic effect (cubs, breeding animals)
- WARNING - horses = hordenine - doping test
- lower in E than grain,
- FEED MIXTURE for cattle and pigs
Hay meal
- Cut hay
- Change of roughage into feeds with similar nutritive values as grains have
- Dry products of fodder crop production – in hot air dryer drum dryers - change of roughage into feeds with similar nutritive value as grains have – hay meal in feed mixture for cattle, horses, rabbits, sheep, pigs and poultry in protein concetrates
Dry beet pulps
Beet Pulp is the pulp that remains after sugar has been removed from the sugar beet. A high calorie, low protein, low sugar fiber source for horses. Processed sugar beet
Has to be swelled in water before fed to horses.
High Energy content
Wheat bran
- (Examples of fods rich in protein wheat bran → = protein ?)
- Fibre source
- Used in mash for horses
- Bad for dogs+ cats
Rye germs
obtained during scalping and brushing of the kernels before grinding high in nitrogen substances - > 20%, good BV fat - 6% - during longer storing – they rot very easy high in E vitamin, B vitamins, Ca, Mn good digestibility – low in fiber using – young animals, breeding animals
rye germs – higher content of NS than wheat. Typical for special diets
