Who were the Toepuddle Martrys?
-men who tried to form a trade union.

- Machine breakers in the country side.
Bow Street Runners
- First professional police force (employed ex constables who already had experienced)
-Founded in 1749 by John and Henry Fielding - Consisted of 8 men
- Only addressed crimes that had already happened.
Metropolitan Police
- Founded by Sir Robert Peele
At least 5.6, under 35 and physically fit to apprehend criminals.
-Good pay and training - so could be taken seriously.

Seperate System
- prisoners had own cells and only allowed to leave during chapel and excercise but was mentally distressing causing prisoners anguish
-Cost of individiual cells expensive.
