Ministers are responsible for all that goes on within their own department, whether or not they are directly concerned e.g. Cameron resigned after campaigning to remain and leave won
Must give accurate info to Parliament. If they knowingly mislead Parliament they must resign e.g. Amber Rudd resigned as Home Sec in 2018 as she inadvertently misled Parliament over the question of whether she knew about targets to remove illegal immigrants
PM ultimately decides how long minister remains in office e.g. May remained Home Sec despite confusion iver deadlines for appeals ahainst Abu Qatada’s deportation to Jordan

Ministers are responsible for their own personal conduct, may have to resign due to personal failings. Fate depends on:
How serious an issue is
How critical Parliament is about the matter and any media response
How the PM responds to the issue
