What is Extraversion?
A person who is extroverted is outgoing, sociable, thrill-seeking, short-tempted, aggressive, they may take part in activity’s like rollocoasters, horror films and public speaking
What is Nuerotcism?
A person who is neurotic is moody, anxious, prone to over react and have unpridictable mood changes
What is psychoticism?
A person who is psychotic usually lacks empathy, are cruel, often alone, aggressive, troublesome
-Related to high testosterone levels
What’s used to look for common patterns in personality?
Eyesencks Personality Questionnaire
What’s Gossop & Eysenck’s research?
They researched 200 drug addicts, compared scores of EPQ with a control group. Addicts had higher Psychoticism and Nueroticism scores but lower Extraversion scores
What is the biological basis pychotism?
Psychoticism relates to levels of testoostrone
What is one characteristic of psychoticm?
Impulsivity
This is when they act before thinking, act in the spare of the moment with no consideration to the consequences
How can impulsivity help explain the initiation of addiction?
May lead people to engage in behvaiours or take substances that have negative consequences, leading to them being at risk of having/developing addiction
How can impulsivity help plain the relapse of an addict?
A person who is impulsive may not think and engage in the behaviour they were sober from, and act impulsively to settle their withdrawal symptoms
