Indications Flashcards
Beta blockers
Arrhythmias, angina, HF, anxiety
Beta blockers arrhythmias
Rate control
Beta blockers angina
Decreases work of heart
Beta blockers HF
(Carvediol) reduces work of heart
Beta blockers anxiety
Hypertension - reduced BP only if SNS is overactive, but aren’t used for hypertension now
Alpha 1 blockers
Mild-moderate hypertension, benign prostatic hypertrophy
Alpha 1 blockers mild-moderate hypertension
Not suitable as mono therapy, decreases TPR thus MABP
Alpha 2 agonist
Hypertension (reduces BP), migraine, menopausal flushing
ACE inhibitors
Hypertension, congestive HF
ACE inhibitors hypertension
Arterial & venous dilation reducing BP
ACE inhibitors congestive HF
Reduces afterload & preload, reduces symp activity & cardiac remodeling caused by ANG2 (useful post MI) also useful in renal disease
Angiotensin receptor blocker
Use in hypertension & CHF when ACE inhibitors intolerable. Reduced bradykinin (vasodilator) accumulation or cough/angiodema
Statins
Most effective treatment for dyslipidaemia. 2* prevention of CVS disease, decrease mortality in those with pre-existing CVS disease
Most effective treat,ent for dyslipidaemia
Statins
Fibrates
Hypercholesterolemia usually combined with statins
Low dose aspirin
Prevention of thrombotic disease (post MI, AF), post CABG surgery, angina, mild-moderate pain
Clopidogrel
Prevention of thrombotic disease when aspirin is intolerable
Enoaxparin
Prevention of thrombotic disease, prevent/treat DVT, unstable angina, acute STEMI
