What conditions were already in place in India that suited conquest?
Bengal textile workshop and port cities open to commerce.
Well developed financial system
Land revenue system. ‘self propelling’
Warrior labour market supply.
How and why were locals the face of the empire?
The brahmi caste levied and collected taxes and then passed them onto british. Imperial elites at a distance. ostensibly continuous.

Some parts were barely effected by colonialism, they retained the same power structures and when brits tried to alter things they met primary resistance.
18th century india was very unstable, why did central authority not yield a great deal of power?
The caste system within villages was so complex leaving little need for superior authority.
According to continuity thesis why could real reforms not be made?
India was to large and it would have been to great a cost.

They were the tax collecting caste and remianed so.
