incubations Flashcards
leptospirosis
1-2weeks
NTM
1-3 weeks
parvovirus
- incubation
- when infectious
- rash duration
4-28 days
infectious in days PRECEDING rash/arthropathy
rasion 7-10 days
HHV6
7-10 days
rubella
- incubation
- infectious duration
- rash duration
- Incubation = 14-21 days
- Infectious period = 10 days after infection to up to 2 weeks post rash. Less infectious than measles
- rash 3 days
measles
- incubation
- infectious period
- timing of rash
- Incubation = 10-14 days
- Infectious period = 3 days prior to 4 days after the rash
- rash within 3 days of the 3 c’s
mumps
- incubation
- infectious period
- Incubation = 15-25 days
- 2 days before onset of illness > 4 days after
- 6 days prior to parotid swelling > 9 days post
varicella
- incubation
- infectious period
- Incubation period = 10-21 days
- Infectious period = 1-2 days before rash until rash crusts. from 8-21 days post exposure
EBV
- incubation
- infective period
- Incubation = 30-50 days
- Infective duration = > 6 months after acute infection then intermittently for life
rhinovirus:
infectious period
Virus can be shed for up to 3 weeks after infection
influenza
- incubation
- infectious period
- incubation = 2 days
- infectious: 24 hours prior to onset of symptoms for 4–7 days of illness.
oseltamivir should be given when?
within 48h of symptom onset
paraflu
- incubation
- infectious duration
- Incubation = 2-6 days
- Infectious duration = 2-3 weeks
rotavirus incubation
1-3 days
dengue incubation
1-7 days
what is the vaccination strategy used against pertussis?
cocooning: immunisation of household contacts and carers of newborn infants
pertussis vax schedule
3 dose primary schedule = 2, 4, 6 months childhood boosters = 18mo, 4yo (effectiveness wanes to 50% by 5yo) adolescents = x1 booster adulting = once every 10 years pregnancy = 3rd trim
HPV vaccine made of what?
Recombinant virus-like particles (VLPs) = composed of L1 protein (outer virus layer) mimicking outer structure of HPV virion
why is the menB vaccine so difficult to make?
MenB polysaccharide capsule similar to fetal nerve cells and therefore poorly immunogenic
which vax are absolutely CI in egg allergy
Yellow fever and Q fever - contain higher amounts of ovalbumin
when can you give live vax with steroid therapy
low dose <13days, or >4 weeks after treatment ceased
how long after prbc or ivig can you give live vax
- 5 months after PRBC
* 9-11months after IVIG
clostridium tetani
2-21 days
pertussis
- incubation and infectious period
- incubation normally 7-10 days
- infectious just prior to and for 21 days after the onset of the cough if untreated
N.meningitidis incubation and infectious period
both up to 10 days
non-typhoid salmonella
Incubation period of 6-72 hours
campylobacter
1 to 7 days incubation period
