What are the three main forms of urinary incontinence?
Stress, urge and overflow (these can also be mixed)
What is stress urinary incontinence?
When urinary leakage occurs secondary to increased intra-abdominal pressure (i.e. cough, sneeze, lifting weight)
What is urge urinary incontinence?
Also known as “overactive bladder,” this is when urinary leakage occurs due to increased activity of the detrusor muscle
What is overflow incontinence?
When urinary leakage occurs due to an overfull bladder, normally without any urge to urinate
Name some modifiable risk-factors for urinary incontinence
Medications (such as diuretics), obesity, UTI
What are the two types of mid-urethral slings and which is more effective?
Retropubic and transobturator (TOT) - they are equally effective (TOMUS study)
