What is an inclusive environment?
One which is designed and managed to allow people with a diverse range of needs and abilities access and use it
What is inclusive design?
Making places everyone can use. This removes barriers and separation. Enabling users to participate equally,

-Children and families act 2014

-BS 8300 - introduced in 2018 and goes beyond the minimum requirements in part M.

What is the equality act 2010
Legally protects people from discrimination
Can you advise a client if the design is compliant with the equality act?
No the act does not state what you should do to be compliant. This is done by building regs. You can’t design something to ensure your client doesn’t act in a certain way.
What process does inclusive environments go through?
Best practise - not always best solution for compliant design
Consultation - what works for one may not for another

Why should businesses encourage inclusive environments?
-They are legally obliged
-Could damage their reputation if not
- attracts clients
- Rectification works would be costly
- Cheaper to do at the design stage than post PC
